Food Recycle Bin
35 Answers
We got all our new recycling bins delivered today ready for the start of the multi box recycling. I'm fine with all of it except the 2 food ones. Those of you who have this already, what do you do, do you rinse them out each time you empty then, I feel they're going to get yucky, especially in the summer.

I usually give the caddy a little spray and wipe when I change the liner, then every now and then give it a bleaching.
Our caddy lives in the cupboard under the sink, so it is easy to chuck teabags in.
You will get used to it.

Had mine now for over a year, you soon get used to them. The council supply us with biodegradable bags, but they still get a little bit "whiffy" Jeyes fluid or whatever you've got looks after that side of things. One thing that is annoying though is to see the amount of food that we throw away !! Good luck
I think you live in the same area as me Prudie. I got my bins last week and I think they said you can leave a note on the bin and they give you a new roll of bags. I don't have any room in the kitchen for the little bin so it'll have to live outside, it's a right pain. I suppose we'll get used to it as we did the recycling but at the moment it seems like it's going to be a right palava.
We have had the food waste bins for several years and have found the most hygenic way to use them, is to wrap all waste food in several sheets of newspaper. This eliminates most of the smell during the summer, and keeps the bin clean. The bin is washed out with bleach every couple of weeks and then the base lined with newspaper. Never had a problem using it this way.
