I'm just sat here listening to the gales outside and I wondered what you would do if something major happened to your house - say the roof blew off -at this time of night no where would be open and you couldn't get any building supplies etc

Yes I do have some odd thoughts but there is a grain of seriousness in there

You and me both gness. I have been trying to sort my files and folders recently to make sure we could lay our hands on the relevant documents and phone numbers if we needed them in an emergency. I'm going to keep an old fashioned notebook with them all listed, no point in having it all buried away in folders or worse still, in an inbox when we might be in a panic and the...

You would have to leave it and move downstairs... sleep on the Sofa perhaps. Not much you could do really granny..Don't worry too much, I'm sure it wont come to that, maybe a few fence panels decide to go for a fly.. Be safe. xxx

Thank you maizie my mind does go off at tangent some times
Unless your roof was put on by gypsies I'm sure it'll still be there in the morning
So does mine granny... It would take a lot of wind to remove the roof..You'll be fine. A nice hot chocolate or glass of something before bed and a good book should sort you out. xxx
Hi, Granny......I would certainly rescue a few bottles of red to see me through but even getting building supplies wouldn't help so I guess it's just go with the flow.

Seeing what has happened to others in all of this has made me a bit more aware that I should be organised.....know where important things are and if possible keep them together.....and things of sentimental value if it comes to that.
I would ring my insurance company. It's John Lewis, so I expect I'd be moved to the nearest 5star hotel!

Yes you are all right - just mentioned the roof as an example but yes I'll putt it out of my mind with a tia maria or two and then worry about something else Joking because I'm not a worrier unless its about the kids
Question Author
would any insurance company be open at this time of night gingejbee
Most insurance company's have a 24/7 helpline
I am scared of strong wind too granny.
on the night of the big storm in 1987, i had to crash back to sleep to stop myself having a heart attack --was so scary. I'd much rather have loads of rain.
How ironic Elvis your post mentioning 24/7 was timed at 20.47
No point worry about "what ifs" folks... You get the tia maria down your neck granny and stop worrying. Hope you have a good nights sleep x
We live in a bungalow so if the roof blew off we'd be in serious *** so we'd get as much as we could into the garage, then we'd get comfortable in the old sleeping bags and drown our sorrows in Glen Morangie and wine till the morning.
Ahh bless...don't worry, this is unlikely to happen. I would go to my mums if it did to me though, and as for gypsies putting roof on, I think I have had plenty working on my house before I moved in so now I will not sleep. lol

I'm going to keep an old fashioned notebook with them all listed, no point in having it all buried away in folders or worse still, in an inbox when we might be in a panic and the power is off. I became particularly aware one day when i was at work and OH was home alone. He had a hell of a job finding the phone number for the power company in a power cut. If his life depended on it, he wouldn't know who our house insurance is with, come to think of it nor would I!

Granny grump, we'll do it together. Look out a few useful phone numbers, write them on a notepad. Take them to the bedside table along with a torch and that way we won't need them! Oh, and a mug of cocoa. Sleep tight.
