I have just had a fit and hauled up the carpets in my bathrooms!!!  They have fitted underlay but I want to put in lino, do I have to lift the underlay or can I lay the lino on top?

I did exactly the same about 2 years ago Shaz with the view of painting the floorboards....needless to say they are still unpainted and naked;-)

I often take notions like this.. first time I have carried as large a job out though  Boo !!!  Just as well cos they never gets finished either. He He He .... can't wait to see husbands face... maybe I should start running now...

I went through exactly same worries- then I hit upon the fantastic argument to use in my defence (defense?) feel free to use it too!

"Its your fault I had to take it up in the 1st place- if you could aim properly when drunk it would still be there!"

lol I dont mean to be unhelpful but I did the very same thing last week and everytime I go into the bathroom I want to cry
You should throw away the carpet underlay and then have hardboard cut and fitted over the bathroom floorboards to receive your new (loose laid, not stuck) lino or vinyl flooring on top.

Hubby came in and was actually ok with it!  It all started with last night ..... no, nothing to do with being drunk either... middle child was very ill and after lovely birthday celebrations was up scrubbing carpets at 1.30am this morning whilst still feeling a bit below par!  Still didn't look clean - the carpet not me! -  (also don't like carpets in bathrooms either with two "boys" in the house!) and so ripped them up this afternoon!  Must finish the job properly tomorrow!
