Hi All

I need to attach two pieces of sheet steel together at one end only so that one piece can "hinge" to 90 degrees of the other ie like a capital "L". It's important that they are attached in such a manner that they cannot hinge greater than the 90 degrees to each other.The two pieces are around 20cm long, 3cm wide and 3mm thick.

Normally, a small hinge rivetted on to the pieces would do the job, but the problem with this is that almost all hinges open to 360 degreees ie "flat", so this wouldn't fit the bill.

Could anyone suggest a method of attaching the two pieces together permanently so they can fold back flat on each other? My head is in the shed tonight!

Have you got room to put a quadrant hinge on either one end or both ends? I googled them and nearly all the ones on there are brass, but there were a few steel ones.

Isn't 'flat' 180°?

I don't think so sddsdean - the versions I've just googled look too big to fit. The bar at the bottom would also seem to stop them closing flat.

Thanks Baldric, you're right of course. I was thinking of one of those circular protractors rather than a semi-circular one!
