Hi,
I hope someone can help me!
I have a small potted indoor 'jasmine' plant (no idea what species). My problem is that it has recently become infested with 2 types of pest. I was able to identify one type as spider mites due to the webbing and spotting on the leaves. The others are in the soil and are hard to describe - they are elongated and very small (<1mm in length) and silvery black.
I have tried insecticidal soap, and I think the mites are gone, but the others are still in the soil, in abundance. There seem to be thousands of them!
I know I should just toss the plant so it doesn't infect all my other ones, but I unfortunately have a strong emotional attachment to it (ex-fiancee gave it to me very early in our relationship).
The kid at the plant store just sent me home with a pyrethrin spray, but he seemed really unsure about whether it would be safe for my plant. (Incidentally, when I asked if he had paperwhite or amaryllis bulbs in stock, he pointed me to a shelf of lightbulbs! Not a real plant expert, I think!)
So I need to find an insecticide to kill the unidentified insects and not harm my beloved plant... any ideas??
