warm up quicker than an oven with shelves?

I always take the shelves out when I warm up the oven, prior to cooking.
Is it necessary?

Never thought about it Tilly, can't see that it would make a difference, but could be wrong
No
I can't see that it would make any difference.
You met be the only person in the world that does that! So then you put a cold shelf back in when you start to cook?
I cannot see what difference it would make.

What is your logic Tilly?
^ must
and do you put them back in when the ovens warm, tilly?

Just thought I'd ask, like.

From a scientific point of view it must make a difference, I would have thought.
Definately a no no.
What an odd idea....!
Wouldn't a cold shelf cool the oven slightly? Good evening Tilly
I have never done that, maybe because I have never thought of it.
From a scientific point of view putting cold things into the oven makes a difference yes.......
you're great fun, tilly :o)

Good evening sibs.

Right. If the oven has three shelves in and you turn it on, the temperature will be affected by three cold pieces of metal that have to heat up.

If the oven is empty, this won't be a factor. Therefore, if you put a chicken in on one shelf only, when the oven has warmed, then this must be more efficient, surely?
I leave the grill pan in there too (it's always clean), would never occur to me to take stuff out provided there's the space to put stuff in.
You need the shelf in there, so you can wrap it in a towel later, and use to warm your bed :)
