If you want someone who knows what they are doing, especially with pruning, you should be paying more!
Hello from Bretagne France...
How much gardeners charge depends on many factors.
I have invested 40K euros in machinery, van, trailer, tools etc and can cater for properties up to several hectares.
I have a high work rate and so charge from 24euros for simple grass cutting and maintenance and 40euros for tractor work. There is alot of traveling involved as the area is very sparsely populated and so time is very much money.
However, artisians in France pay more than 50% of 'all' profit to the state.
I pay myself 8 euros net per hour which is 20% above the minimum net wage.
I have never had a client turn me down due to my price point as I find they are only too happy to find some-one reliable.
Back in the U.K.... I would have to charge 15+ in order to cover all my costs and pay me a decent wage.
Here my biggest competitors are all the other Brits who work on the black for 10euros per hour as they have failed to find work due to their lack of language skills.
