F/freezer

We are leaving our home for a few weeks ,we have a large F/F and the freezer will only be about half full.What woud you fill the empty drawers with to help save electric.

Well, you won't be saving much at all...filling it up to save power only works if it's being opened and closed a lot!

And, obviously, if you buy a bunch of food just to fill it up that's going to cost you money. I'd say leave it as is.

stuey: quite agree...and I would argue that it's more important to have it full when you are there and using it a lot, rather than when you're away and leaving it closed.

They say that it's a good idea to fill up the big gaps with screwed-up newspaper.

We're regularly away from home for anything up to six weeks and never do anything to the fridge freezer, sometimes it's full, sometimes it's almost empty. The amount you might, potentially, save on electricity is negligible. Personally I wouldn't bother doing anything, just close your front door behind you and forget about it :)

I was once told to fill gaps with loaves of sliced bread and of course for this purpose the cheapest possible will do.

Spare blankets. They will come to no harm.
