Just a couple that came up.
If it's just a simple dowel, I would be inclined to make something up. Perhaps a piece of steel of the same diameter as the dowel. Stainless steel or chromed tube maybe.
Is it possible to drill out where the dowel has snapped off, to slide in a new one?
