I have a nice lightly textured vinyl paper in my hall, stairs, landing but its quite a darkish colour and it would really benefit by being lighter.  So, my question is, can you paint over vinyl wallpaper with success?  If anyone knows, I would be happy to hear from you. thanks!

I have done this before with success, but to be on the safe side test paint a small out-of-sight area first. I assume you will be using emulsion paint ? That would be best.  You could cut a piece of vynil from a sample roll at B & Q or Homebase; you will only need a square foot or so. Good luck

thanks for your quick reply.  Yes, I would be using emulsion paint.  I will get a sample of paper from our local diy store in the next few days (never thought of doing that) & give it a go - wish me luck!
