Hot water keeps going hot and cold

When I turn the hot water on, the boiler fires up and gives me hot water for a few seconds than it cuts off and goes cold and than after a while it fires up again and gives hot water just for a few seconds again. So there's no constant hot water.

I'm no expert on boilers but when ours had a similar problem it turned out that there were a couple of rubber/plastic tubes inside the boiler that had split.

I think the best thing to do is to arrange to have boiler serviced/checked out before the problem gets any worse.

is it a fairly new house?

My friend had a similar prob which was fairly common with this type of new build, the temp setting on the combi boiler was set too high meaning it kicked in with a safety setting when the hot water was fired up and the cold kicked in...

sounds like a thermocouple faulty or a pressure switch.

Hi all, thanks for your responces. I've had an engineer look at the boiler and it turns out that the problem is due to sludge in the system!! When water goes to the heating it is heated an than push through a pump in to the rads. However when it is for the taps it is heated via a seperate element and than pushed through to the taps, this element is full of sludge and thus would not heat the water!! solution is to clean this element and flush the heating system. Hope this helps some one.
