Hello all. I have new wooden stairs in my house. I've stained the sides which i am happy with but would like the risers to match. The problem is the risers are made from ply so staining them would look wrong. I'm thinking of coating them in real wood and staining that. Does any one know where i can by real wood sheets that are thinner than say 5mm? A friend reckons you can buy it on a roll but i can't find any. Thanks for any help or alternative ideas

You could use 5mm veneered ply (the veneer being the timber to match the other elements of the staircase).

Personally i would go to a local timber merchants and ask them to cut each riser panel to size.
Lots on the net like this

Carpet the stairs - wooden treads are so noisy!
No mention of treads.
