My mother has moved into a care home and I am selling her house, something I have never done before. Could someone please tell me the usual procedure for obtaining final bills from utility companies and switching supply to the new owner?

From my memory of moving house you just advise the utilities of the day of ownership change, then on the day you supply them with meter readings. They should do the rest.
Contact your suppliers and arrange to have readings taken on the handover day.The new owner is responsible for their own supplies.
