Some time ago the gas board fitted one of these detectors. I assumed that was it,but now it is bleeping every few minutes and the instructions say to contact them to buy another one. At the time it cost about 34 and I really don't want to spend the same again.Any solutions please?

I cant swear this is the answer, but normally when things like this bleep it means the batteries need replacing.

My carbon monoxide detector saved me from a potential fire one night (took shade off a table lamp, left it on next to a bag of rubbish ie left the hot bulb resting against rubbish which then started to smoke).  Obviously this is not its main purpose but you should definitely investigate why its beeping.

you can get carbon monoxide detedtors in B&Q for roughly 5 for 2, they are ones that need checking though as they are colour change ones not ones that beep or anything, but my mum has them and they dont need replacing very often.

Thanks for the info. This type doesn'thave batteries.

Thanks Again

I did some research on these detectors. The part that needs replacing in non-powered detectors (usually after 3 or 4 years depending on price and quality) is the radioactive module which cannot be recharged and should be disposed of carefully. The batteries in the powered models are usually there for operating the audible warning / flashing LED's. Best to repace the whole unit as it could save your life one day ! As suggested, B&Q do a cheaper model at around 20 which lasts 5 years
