Last week my partner and I decided to buy a frige freezer 2nd hand for 50 of a man who advertised weekly in our local paper who deals in washer, dryers, ovens etc!! When we look at it ot looked great its whirlpool and stands about 4ft high! When we got it home we noticed the door (fridge - top section) wasn't straight - when we looked closer there was a large wire pin over the bracket that holds the doors together - it looks like the bracket is the wrong size!! We thought it would probable be ok....................................Until i put a bottle of milk in the fridge door and the whole door fell off and landed on my foot!!! (NOT IMPRESSED)

Anyway I phoned the man to tell him as the he wrote me an 8 week guarantee!! He said he would come round this morning to take a look at it (i told him i thought the hinge was too small for the fridge!!) I also noticed the frige freeze's up inside at the back even when its on low I mentioned this to him and he said that it was normal as theres a plate at the back which freeze's then melts - to keep the food cold (the food wasn't getting cold anyway??)

He rang me this morning and told me he couldn't come round til tomorrow as he's ordered a new hinge and it wont be here til tomorrow - seems strange to me? He also said he would bring me another fridge to look at if he cant fix it??

Could this man just be dodgy - should i just ask for a full money refund and steer clear of his type in the future?

Please help me.........

xx

seems a bit dodgy but keep an open mind till tomorrow good luck
I would be tempted to ask for my money back and if he refuses, tell him you'll report him to the Trading Standard Officer at your local council.  There is a rule that new goods must be of serviceable quality but I'm not sure whether this applies to second hand goods sold through a commercial dealer.   On the other hand, there is generally not a lot to go wrong on fridges & freezers and they can last for years and years so there's no reason why a secondhand one shouldn't be OK if bought from a reputable supplier.  If he can't repair it, check out his other stock but if nothing suits, still ask for your money back.  Good luck.
id get my money back pronto!
Get a refund, if he does fix it what happens if it breaks again after 8 weeks! They're not that expensive to buy new, we got a fridge/freezer last year from comet for 150 and it was only that price because its silver, white ones were much cheaper and you'll get a 12 month guarantee.
