I really want to replace my old skirting boards, I have been putting it off as I am scared I will mess up the walls when I take them off.

Any ideas or tips or shall I get a man in!?

If the boards are nailed into the wall then for sure some plaster can get removed. But it's not a big deal to repair it.
I have found putting up new skirting boards is not easy.

Generally the plaster does not go down to the floor level, there is a 2 inch gap where the plaster ends and the floor starts.

Often the skirting board is nailed to the wall, with the nails going into the gaps between the bricks.

But I have always had problems doing it so you may want to get a person in.

Thanks guys, that's what I was afraid of.
...and they're usually gigantic 6-inch nails that have rusted and are *** to remove. So you need a big crowbar, a spare block of wood for leverage and access to lots of rude naughty words.
I agree with VHG, when we took off our Victorian skirting boards, there was a messy plaster hole behind them. Get someone in.

Thanks all, I will get someone in.
Millie, although, in my own small way, I try to encourage people to get stuck in, the others are absolutely right.

A simple job requiring little intellectual input ............... but so many things to go wrong ;o))))
///and access to lots of rude naughty words.///
i'm available if you need any help in that department
When I nod my head, you hit it!
