Smeg Washer,dryer
5 Answers
We purchased a Smeg washer/dryer less than 3 years ago which cost £599 and which we were reassured was a very reliable machine. In less than 18 months an engineer came to fix the tumble dryer twice as it wasn't drying,so we got a separate dryer. Now the washing machine comes up with error code E-13 after every wash and doesn't spin out properly. As from this week to spin dry only, E-13 shows and the machine doesn't spin.We have contacted Smeg and they say E-13 is not in their manual as an error code and seem evasive about what it actually does mean. Our local dealer from whom we purchased the machine has sent his engineer to us 3 times this year and has failed to fix the problem. They have also spoken to a Smeg engineer for advice which did not address the fault.
I am wondering if there is anyone else who has had a problem with this make of machine.I would love to hear from you!

That said, the number of faults you list could be construde as unmerchantable quality. I would not have bought another dryer. the small claims court only cost £80 (i think). Your retailer is the one to speak to (politely). I think you will find them more cooperative these days due to the competitition.

Thanks for your replies. The error code is not in the manual. On the Smeg website E-13 refers to the door catch but that isn't faulty.I don't think the machine would work at all if it was.Having come here 3 times our local retailer's service engineer has given up on it and says we must deal with Smeg directly
I would definitely take this further. You should not have had to fork out for another dryer. dont take any *** about it being out of warranty. This is not acceptable. You will have to give them one last chance to rectify all the faults, pay your out of pocket expenses (the new dryer) before taking it to the small claims court. Make a list of all the probs, with dates if poss.
