Knitting Query

Hi, I'm trying to be a bit more adventurous, doing a charity knit for donation for sale, and have a pattern where is says to "knit 2 together then knit until 1 stitch remains", then to knit three rows.

Can anyone help with the "knit until 1 stitch remains bit? Is this knitting to leave one stitch on the needle then carrying on knitting the further rows?

Sorry, it actually says "until 1 st. remains , inc".

is is something that needs a string or narrow strap? as that's what it sounds like to me.

Are you knitting the ‘Woolley’ Knitted Donkey?

I see that as knit 2 together, knit the row until one stitch is left and then increase.

Yes, that's the one Robinia, working on the back leg with the front leg done and left back on the needle.

That is what I read it at Woofgang and didn't seem to make much sense. Your version seems more like it Robinia but wanted to check, fiddly enough with 3.25 needles and arthritic fingers and didn't want to have to go back and try to unpick.

Seems like maybe an older pattern as has size 10 needles, was non-plusessed as seemed excessive until I checked and found it's an older term end got the conversion, would have been a bit of a mutant donkey otherwise haha!!!

Yes, you can use whatever method of increasing you prefer...there are plenty of videos if you google. Here's a clear one (apologies if you already know how).

I am not expecting much from my first attempt so might just have myself a wonky donkey to keep haha! Not used to using such thin needles.

Nice to have a challenge though. The most challenging project I've taken on in a long time, especially with the arthritis. Determined to get back the knack of crocheting too, learnt years ago but been finding it trickier, found a great larger handled hook to try though. Saw some gorgeous crochet cottons the other day for only £1.99 and been given a gorgeous pattern to aim to.

Need to get my sewing machine working again too, spend so much time sitting resting, good to have a nice hobby back when my hands allow. Used to do lots when I was younger.

I know what you mean, I always had knitting on the go, either for me and my family or for other people. Now that everything aches and I have the attention span of a gnat it takes me so long. I started an edge to edge cardigan (no button band to faff with!) over a year ago and didn't actually finish it until February this year....and that was only because I was off my feet after a fall.
I've never been very good at crochet, I really wish I was, especially now all these lacy things are in fashion.

I haven't done any sewing for years, and that was only cushion covers. Can't believe how I used to copy clothes and have them ready to wear in no time.

Good luck, we want to see the finished donkey...no matter how many legs he has :)
