Scorched Carpet

I knew I should not have tried to do ironing .. I try to avoid it all costs.
I tripped and put my hand on the ironing board to steady myself and hot iron fell, hot side down, onto the carpet ..... a very obvious place. It seems to have melted it, burned or scorched it. Is there anything simple I can do to make it look less dreadful?

when i did this i had to claim on the insurance or put a chair over it ,

I had a small burn mark on a carpet. I improved the appearance by carefully using sandpaper to remove the top burnt fibres revealing the unburnt carpet beneath. It left a small depression in the carpet which was hardly noticeable

Thanks for suggestions but can't face pulling this one up as it does all of downstairs, up the stairs and the upstairs landing .... and just the wrong place for a chair or mat .... that will teach me to leave the ironing board firmly locked away!

Mallyj - Google 'how to get rid of scorch marks on a carpet' there are lots of ideas there. It all depends on how bad the scorch is.

mine just melted so it really showed up ,other than going over the whole carpet with the hot iron to make a pattern there was nothing to be done.

A tenant once left an iron shaped mark on a practically new carpet. I managed to sort the carpet, which had been melted, by using a pack of disposable razors (20 or more) gently slicing off the blobs at the top of the pile - they have to be quite sharp else the method doesn't really work. The result was generally undetectable although I felt that knowing where to look I could still find the spot. No doubt if the mark is worse than the one I dealt with then this solution won't work.
