Where can I buy it by the pound, other than the Internet??

Yes. Just not at the same times that most other people do!

The "small expensive" packs are (usually) food grade ie top quality, for use in cooking. The larger, cheaper packs, as in this Wilko link are (usually) suitable for non-food use.
