I would be really grateful if anyone can give me an idea how to make my garden more private from my nosy neighbour. There is a boundary hedge splitting our properties (I have no idea whose it is) which she gets cut on a regular basis. Our front doors face each other and mine has a see through glass pane which I can't block as I need the light. I don't enjoy gardening or barbecuing any more as she's constantly twitching her curtains and from her garden she can see straight in to my home because of the low hedge. I don't want a fence as we are the end house with a hedge all round and I don't particularly like them. I am also concerned about the new laws regarding heights. Please help, she's driving me potty!

You could buy some trees which grow tall and put them in a row next to the existing hedge so when they eventually grow you can decide how much to cut off them so she can't see into your garden.
We had a similar problem, but kitchen windows facing each other, hers has nothing on it, so no privacy when she's there, we put up nets for the daytime, and a blind for the night, it works, she can no longer see me when I get up early for work, and make a cuppa.
For your front door, you can put in bumpy glass or etched if you are feeling rich or there is stained glass type adhesive sheet (fablon kind of thing) that gives privacy without losing the light. Growing your own hedge would seem to be the best solution for your garden as philandlil suggests
DellaF, why not tackle the nosiness ? I had the same problem. No hedge will keep upstairs net curtains from twitching ! You could either try becoming friends with the neighbour (which is what I did) or start waving at her when she's nosying. You could stand in your kitchen in your underwear and wave at her. Make her know you know she's staring, and embarrass her. You shouldn't have to retreat into a fortress of blinds and frosted glass.
You could try freestanding trellis-like fencing placed along with a variety of ivy type plants and wall baskets etc, strategically placed to block the view from her windows. this still allows some light and doesn't look too heavy
