I need some walls plastered and have got one quote so far.

The Plasterer said I need to Board the walls first and to ask a joiner to come in and do this.

My query is, is do Plasterers not normally do Boarding as part of the job?

Any Plasterers out there?

Yes.

This bloke sounds like he is either lazy or an idiot.
Are the walls already plastered?

Hello Talbot, Walls are not already plastered
When I got my walls plasterd, my Master Plasterer did ALL the work. Your man sounds like a cowboy. Get another quote.
A little confused, is the plasterer suggesting the joiner puts up the plasterboard! that's a plasterers job!!
Question Author
Yes, that's what he was suggesting.

I thought that was a PLasterers job but wasnt fully sure.
Get another quote - get one guy in to do all job
I would definately give him the elbow and get other quotes. It sounds like he is a cowboy.

Hello...Just what I was suspecting.

I will deffo get other quotes.

Thank you :-)
He may well want a joiner to fit the framework to level the wall before the plaster boards are screwed in place.
Alva you can glue plasterboard to almost anything then put skim coat on that
We are a firm of builders that sub contract the plastering work. The only time a joiner would be needed were if you were dividing a room and he would do the wooden framework on which to fix the plaster board. If its just to even up a wall then wooden 'lats' are screwed to the existing wall and board placed on top which is usually done by the plasterer. You do not NEED plasterboard if you are just having a skim to neaten things up. I suggest you get some more quotes.
You fix plasterboard to walls with platerboard adhesive, no joiner required.
TonyAv - true you can dot and dab plasterboard but it depends on the surface wall
Ret good for thinking "outside the box" - maybe a skim is all it needs?
That was addressed already, Tonyv...see second reply.
Talbot ok
What are the walls? -stone or brick -you can dot and dab modern brick but it does not work so well with stone and you may need lats and insulation. All of this could be done by the plasterer
Much - u just need to trust in the person u employ
I think yer man is a bit of a div. joiners don't usually fix plasterboard. They don't usually fix stud or framework. That's for a carpenter. Joiners make doors/windows/storey frames/staircases etc etc.

On sites, plasterboard is often fixed by "tackers." In your home, plasterboard is fixed by anyone who is competent. Carpenters certainly, but any decent plasterer will also do it willingly.

We do need to know the type of surface you want to fix the board to.
