Crochet a blanket?

Have any ABers crocheted a blanket? I would like to have a go, but I am not very craft-y and I've never crocheted before, I was wondering if it is easy to do for a beginner? Thanks in advance.

 As an experienced knitter I've never really found crocheting 'easy' although I can do a little.  However I know people who don't knit but can crochet very well.

The best advice I can give you is to try & find someone to show you how to do it as those diagrams in books just don't seem to mean a thing.  Well not to me, I found myself doing the map thing & turning it upside down!

I've been doing a blanket since 1983 btw! :-)

Crochet is easy once you know how.Patons do a really good book "First steps in Crochet.".I don't know if they still publish it but you may be able to pick up a copy on ebay.Look under Crafts .. and search for crochet patterns.

As a 'non diagram understander' I agree with Robinia. My left handed mother-in-law taught me to crochet by facing her and copying what she did.

I'm not that great but have managed a couple of blankets. One by the spiral method - crocheting in a circle....but the easiest was mountains of squares, then crocheting them all together.

If you don't have anyone to show you then as shaneystar says Patons is an excellent book for beginners.

My Mum tried to teach me to crochet and I just could not get the hang of it. Then I found myself living abroad ,expecting my first baby and no Mummy to help !! I had knitted loads of baby clothes but wanted to crochet a pram blanket.I was so determined to achieve this I eventually mastered it from a book.After a lot of pulling out and chucking it round the room in disgust the penny finally dropped and I did the blanket.It was much admired and I made another couple for friends who were expecting.My Mum was very impressed when I came back home with the baby and the blanket !! Now..ask me to sew a button on ..and that's a different story!!
