My Sky box is acting up and refuses to record programmes sometimes and I get the failed message. Do I need to buy a new box from Sky or can someone else supply and fit?

have you switched it off and done a restart, that often works.

Is the planner full?
You can "force" a software update for the box, search on the web for how to do it, it is not difficult. This WONT lose your programs. This may fix it.

You can also do a complete reset though you will lose all your recorded programs. Again search the web for how to do it. This takes the box back to the way it was when you got it.

I assume you still have a Sky contract as once you cancel a contract the Sky record function stops working.
p.s. There is a technology section on AB and a question like yours may be better on there.

Good idea PP. Not been around much as we've just moved house and we're currently living in a bomb site. I have been promised a completed kitchen for Christmas but I'm not holding my breath. It's just nice to switch off at night and watch telly when we finally stop working. Sky did do a re-boot a few months ago but it's looking as though it may be terminal
