is that actually going to work?

Who knows? Worth a try. Cats dont like the smell of citrus.....
Let me know if you find a spray that works. Nothing, but nothing, has prevented ours from shredding the furniture.
dry the lemon peel and put it under the cushions in little bags?
There are lots available if you google citrus spray for cats. I also don't think they'd stop a cat scratching furniture - a good loud No and hand clap will stop it if you're watching.
First thing to do is get rid of the cat, then professionally steam clean furniture. I'd never hurt a cat but I'd certainly never help one either. Get yourself a loving dog, mongrel preferably.
janzman I don’t want a pet cat but that was uncalled for.

Buy some oil of Cinderella and add to spray.
^^^^^ citronella
Just for a while try double sided cellotape on the parts they usually claw - cat's hate that -give them a scratching post with a bit of catnip on and you shouldn't have a problem.
I tried citrus a few years back but they really liked the smell. My two aren't really destructive these but they are a bit older.

rsvp's idea sounds good, there are special products that you can put on your furniture to deter the little angels.

Some times my two actually use one of the many scratchthingies.

RSVP - tried that one - cat just scratched other parts, and we stuck to the tape.
I have an off cut of carpet in my downstairs loo that my cats use.

Strange creatures. My two don't scratch furniture but my in-laws cats have wrecked her leather sofa...
if it is a fabric sofa try eucalyptus citriodora essential oil it is clear and highly volatile so won't leave marks has a lovely lemon balm scent

Many thanks I will try the eucalyptus, she ignores the scratching post and sleeps in the room where the sofa is so I cant watch her all the time... , jantzman we are keeping the cat..
