Wall Mounted Tv And Sound Bar Bracket .....

Hi there,

I am thinking of putting my 50" TV and sound bar on the wall to give me more floor space. I am wondering if this is an easy job to do and if you have any tips please?

What is the wall's construction. Solid or stud wall.

A 50" TV is large and heavy.

You will need to put large bolts deep in the wall to hold up the wall bracket / TV.

It may be best to get someone in to do it.

Don't put it too high. Bury the cables in the wall or it will look messy.

Togo... It's an outer brick wall.. No houses are joined to the wall, if that helps!

VHG... Who would I need to get in to do this kind of job? Obviously not an electrician or plumber lol!

There are specialist companies who do this sort of thing.

Have a look in your local paper or any local "listings" magazine you get.

A search on Google for "fix TV to wall" came up with this company.

I am not saying use them (they are just an example) but it shows there are companies around who do this.

Anyone who knows about fixings and can use a spirit level .. if you see them knock the fixings in with the spirit level you have got the wrong person.

Honestly any handyman should do it easily !

Also look for local companies who fit aerials or dishes and they may do it, or know a company who do.

Right lisa. Have a look at the back of your tv and see if the mounting bolts for a wall bracket are in there. Or have you got them separately stored with the instruction manual and guarantee that you got when you unboxed the set? You must get the correct size and specification bracket for your tv. If you have not got technical help take a photo of the back of the tv on your phone and take the make and model number of your tv (and the installation manual if you have it) into Currys. The staff in there can give you the exact bracket and advice on fitting. Think about cables hanging down and how you are to get them to skybox, dvd player, sound bar. It is a good idea to have all the cables and wires plugged into the correct sockets of the tv before lifting it into position. With a solid wall and a big tv like that I would be using rawlbolt type fittings to secure the bracket to the wall. You will need a decent percussion drill and masonry drills ( pilot holes will be required before the bolt holes are big enough) and probably a spanner or two. Be sure you are not drilling into buried electrical cables or water pipes.

We had one on a motorised bracket for a while - had to have plates inside and out and bolts right through to take the weight. The bracket stopped working so we put it back on a stand - newer TVs are much lighter than my 6 year old 70lb Plasma

This is quite a light TV, it just looks big but is quite thin.

If you do go ahead and fix it to the wall Lisa, make sure you let your house contents Insurance company know.

I know somebody whose TV came off the wall, and the Ins comp wouldn't pay out, because they weren't informed.

I've not put a TV on the wall but it sounds very straight forward to me. Like putting a shelf up. Get correct brackets . Mark up hole ppositions in correct place on the wall. Drill, plug. Screw it all together. Only thing I would say is check the wall. In my day they were all good bricks & mortar. Nowadays they use c rap thermal blocks that can't seem to hold anything. As the coat pegs in my hall bear witness to.

Ta Lisa _Louise. When you have got it done let us know. Don't leave us all 'hanging'. Work out where you are putting your sky or satellite box and DVD player if you have one. I used Gloss larch woodgrain kitchen unit top boxes to make wall mounted cupboards. Then clad them in matching gloss panels tops and sides, fitted the matching light pelmet and fitted lights under them (about 8ins off the floor). All the wires and cables for the blu ray and sky gubbins are hidden inside by drilling through the carcases and the wires up to the tv are behind a gloss black 30mm wide kitchen unit door. Ta da no ruddy speaker, mains or hd cables on show and all the DVD discs stored out of sight with all the tv, blu ray, and sky booklets are in there where you may need them.

Will do hc but you will have to bear with me over the weekend.I used 2 800mm long by 360mm high side by side in the middle and a 1000mm long by
260mm high at each end so there were 2 heights with the bottoms level, with the doors hinged at the bottoms with soft close restrainers. The total length of the unit is 3.6mtrs in a 4mtr long room and is dead centre as is the tv. Everyone who visits asks where I bought it. I used to design for a kitchen company for 12 years or so and for a bespoke bedroom company before that.
