New Consumer Unit

I have been advised I need a new consumer unit and it will cost about £300.
Does that seem reasonable
It's for a one bedroom flat

Off the top of my head I would say unreasonable if you are talking about a RCB. How many circuits would you need ? 6-7 maybe for a 3 bed semi I would of thought. The labour costs must be quite high.

He recently charged £190 for fitting two lights and replacing six sockets and two light switches

If it is the same property it makes me wonder why he didn't do all the work at the same time. I am not qualified but have replaced ring main sockets and light switches. There is no time involved just replacing like for like but channelling out and re- wiring and making good would take up labour time.
6 sockets and two light switches wouldn't cost more than about £30 I would suspect. A plumber I have used quite a lot in the past just charged me £65 to tighten down the gland nuts on a seeping radiator valve. He will be coming back to replace the valves next week and no doubt will want to charge me for the two new valves (fair enough) and £130 ?? labour maybe. This will be the last job he gets from me. :-(

Sounds like a decent price to me.None of the boards shown in retro's links are of much use to you.The first at 14:45 can no longer be installed in a domestic property..hence the give away price tag and the second at 14:48 requires RCBO trips costing around £18 each.You must use a registered installer who will certify and log the work with local building control.

You see I was tempted to do the sockets myself kind of like for like but the light fittings are flush onto a newly plastered ceiling so I wanted the job doing right
