In the bathroom, I have 3 12v 50W halogen spotlights built into a false ceiling. I do not have easy access to the transformer. Will it be OK to replace the halogen bulbs with appropriate LED ones or would they require a different transformer?

The short answer is ......... yes, just replace the lamps with 12v LED ones. LED lamps do need a modern electronic transformer (driver) to operate properly. You may be lucky, and they will be Ok. It all depends on the transformer you have already. They'll light up alright, but may flicker. That would be a sure sign that the transformer would have to be replaced....

They'll light up alright, but may flicker. That would be a sure sign that the transformer would have to be replaced. Even if you put up with the flickering, it would reduce the life of the lamps greatly.
Dimmers can be a problem. LEDs must have a trailing edge dimmer.

Thanks. I replaced the halogen bulbs with LEDs. They don't flicker but at 200 lm they are not as bright as the halogen ones were.
Yes, you need around 500 lumens, Steve.

LedHut have them at £5.49 if I remember.
