Recently changing my old wooden porch to a new pvc one,has resulted in the paint outlines of the old one being visible on the stone front door surround.
Have tried to remove with a steel brush but to no avail..a builder friend recommended sand/shot blasting but the cost is prohibitive.
Does anyone know of any other solutions?
Thank you in advance

Power water jet ?
If it's sunk into the stone's surface it may need that surface removed. Is there an acidic product that is worth a try ? I know something is sometimes used to get mortar off of walls.
I had a similar problem when a customer removed some window shutters from the outside of their house. There was paint outline of the shutters on the brickwork. I ended up using specialized brick paint to hide it.
Whoops, I've just noticed it stone. You can buy match pots of masonry paint from Homebase. You could try matching the colour of the stone by mixing several match pots together.
You could try giving it several coats of "Nitromors" paint stripper until the paint is soft enough to wire brush it off.

Failing that... a small 4 1/2" (115mm) angle grinder..........

with one of these..........

I had the same problem 3 years ago. I removed the marks with: steel wool (not the soap pads, pure, raw steel wool) dipped in Nitromors; and a scraper (old knife with point broken off). Make sure you wear tough gloves, or you will get dozens of little bits of steel wool in your fingers!
