Fascia Question.
8 Answers
My small ground floor extension has a fascia board beneath the flat roof. It's two lengths of wood (not sure why) about seven feet long, and ten inches deep.
It's looking rough now so I have chipped off any loose paint.....it needs a good sanding....really good....and a little bit of filling.....then painting.
I can do all this but it's a real time consuming faff......I have to go up through the gaps in the arbour either too far away to reach safely.....or face almost touching the fascia.....and keep moving the ladder......up and down through the arbour...
Is there any reason I can't buy a nice, not too thick piece of wood.....treat and paint it well at ground level then just screw it to the existing wood?
The overhang of the felt roof is about an inch deep so there's room without rain dripping onto the top edge of the fascia.....
Thanks GX

But ................. the inch under the overhang allows rainwater to drip away safely without touching the fascia. If you reduce this overhang to almost nothing, then rain will constantly run down the face and discolour the paint... and eventually rot the timber.
This would be a better option... only 10mm thick, and no painting!

I know that not everyone likes uPVC, but, if you don't like the colours, then it can be painted.

Mr. Builder....thank you....that looks perfect......!
I have just put the long ladder up but it has to be almost vertical between the first arbour beam and the wall.
That would be fine....it won't go anywhere, but then I can only fit me in up to my upper back...no chance of getting my bottom through....and it's going to take ages doing little bits at a time.....
I will put away the ladders.....pour a drink and mull those over......thank you very much....Gx
