Have the compost bin, but not the knowledge.

I need a simple straightforward gardening yearbook which tells me what to do when to which bits.

Any ideas?

The gardening book you can pick up from a shop quite cheaply, as far as the compost bin is concerned, the things not to put in, are Tomato plants and their fruits, same for potatoes and weeds, best not to put cooked food in, including meats, cooked or raw.

Grass cuttings, fruit and vegetables are best, with a layer of good earth in the middle, depending on how big your bin is.

There are better gardeners than me on this site, but those are the rules I go by, and get excellent compost by following those rules.

Thanks.  Just one problem - I have already been putting weeds in!  This is in amongst all the raw fruit, veg and salad trimmings, tea bags and loads of grass cuttings.  Have I caused myself a problem?
