Transporting A Fridge/freezer

We brought my late Mum`s fridge freezer around to my house this afternoon. I know you have to let the oil settle so that it doesn`t get into the compressor and circulate which can cause a blockage. The manual says that the fridge has to stand for 2 hours after it has been moved but that is when it is transported upright. We had to turn it on it`s side to get it here. I phoned the manufacturer but they couldn`t help. How long should I give it before I switch it on (it only came from about 300 metres away) 4 hours maybe?

Yes I'd go for 4 hours or overnight.

Thanks. It was installed at 4 pm. I can`t wait to turn it on and start cooking proper food again.

I used to transport them in bulk for Whirlpool. When they came into Paddock Wood distribution centre from the USA or Continent, they would be every which way in the containers and railway wagons. It is not desperate for them to be transported upright...just better. 4 hours should be ample for it to 'settle'.

Im sure you cant ... 'Cook proper food in a freezer' .. correct me if I'm wrong ?

Sigh.............If you have nowhere cold to store decent fresh food you may end up eating rather less well than if you had.

I'm confused too - why, when you turn on a fridge freezer will you be able to cook proper food again? I didn't know they had other uses!!!!!! Sorry I realise what you meant 237 xx

Thanks for the replies and especially to sddsddean. I left it for 4.5 hours in the end and it seems fine. For alavahalf probably had more than a few halfs last night by the sound of it, I have been running my freezer down so wasn`t able to make healthy ready meals and freeze them which I have to because I work away a lot and need to store them (plus frozen veg etc)
