subsidence in Glasgow

I live in a tenement flat in Dennistoun, Glasgow, which I am trying to sell, but the surveyor did not pass it. I have had a structural survey done, which recommends that I get steel poles put into the building to support it, due to subsidence in the rear wall. Apparently it is not a serious problem, but I cannot move until the work gets done.

Does anyone know of a reputable builder who could deal with this kind of work? Any idea of the price?

If you live in a Tenement with other tenants then they should share the cost.  If its a mixed tenants and owner occpuire then the landlord (GHA or council) should also share the cost.  They (Landlord) may aslo have their own contracts for that kind of work so it maybe be worthwhile asking them.

I've tried all that, I've tried everything! We are at the end of a 3 year waiting list with the council, who will probably tell us to naff off anyway, seeing as it's not a serious problem. The other tenants/renters don't pay up for anything - trying to get 50 out of them to fix the drains was an impossibility, so imagine trying to get a grand out of them to pay for the repairs. I'm going to have to do it myself, just to get out of there - all I need is the name of a good reasonable builder!

can you not get a statutory order from the council?  I used to live in a flat in edinburgh, and when repairs were needed that were communal, ie roof repairs, repairs to the wall of the building, one of my neighbours would contact the council, who would issue a statutory order to all tenants, instructing them to all pay a shared amount of the repairs.  If I was you I would try the council again.  Good luck!
