Energy Suppliers...smart Meters
25 Answers
...Our energy supplier Npower has informed us they will be installing a 'smart meter' in a couple of weeks. They haven't asked us if we want one or given much info about it. Only their possitive spin but no answers such as what if we don't want one, what if it is faulty, lots more.
Has anyone had any experience of smart meters for gas and electricity, We're really quite confused.

If a customer doesn't want one installed , they don't have to. The customer merely has to tell their supplier they don't want one and that will be the end of the matter. No one will force a smart meter upon a consumer.
The link you provided said as much under the heading "Supplier led roll-out". Note the final sentence:
"But there is no legal obligation on individuals to have one"
So everyone is entitled to decline the installation if they so wish and that is with the backing of the government.

Of course, the moment they want to move house they'll find all the seller's have property with smart meters so the government and companies get their way anyway. (I'm unsure about rulings regarding getting a smart meter replaced by an uncontrolled one; but comparing to the water supply I understand anyone antisocial enough to go to meter bills ensure that the property always is.)
