How Do I Clean Brass Door Furniture Please

Does anyone know an easier way apart from Brasso and elbow grease? Would Brillo pads be better, it is going to take forever at the rate I am going so grateful for any suggestions, the easier the better ;0)

Get somebody else to do it!

Certainly not Brillo pads which would scratch the surface of the brass which is a somewhat soft metal.

Brasso and elbow grease and worth putting some masking tape around the fitting to prevent any accidental drops....

Sorry but Brasso and elbow grease is the only way.

If the brass has a protective lacquer then Brasso will not work.

Thank you for all the replies and tips, it is coming brighter but very slowly, I. Think most of the lacquer has come off over the years danny13 so back to the brasso and elbow grease, but if you are offering corylus the job is yours.....:0) thanks again, rosy

Were you sure it was solid brass Rosy. Some door furniture is a base metal that has been "brass" electroplated then lacquered. Any heavy cleaning or abrasive cleaning will take off the lacquer coat and the thin plated layer of brass. Then you are looking at replacement.

I suggest Brasso & when completely cleaned paint over with clear acrylic, then in future they only need a wipe over.

The part that I have already done is quite bright now so I am assuming it is solid brass Togo so hopefully it will be ok, yes I will coat it whiskeryron, not going to do this again in a hurry, it will be harder when I get to the handle which has a kind of rope pattern on it :0( if it all goes down the Swanee I will replace them with black wrought iron but I'd rather not. Does the acrylic really work? I have a large brass fender which is a total pain to clean with brasso and within a week it looks dull again.

It does depend if they are brass, or "brassed" ......ie solid brass or brass plated.

What is wrong with good, old fashioned Brasso ?
