I'd like your opinions on burn a new Vaccuum cleaner. A while ago our old one broke and when I went to buy a new one, we couldn't buy one as powerful (something to do with EU rules I think - fair enough - I'm not moaning about it). However I d find my new one, another Vax, is just not doing the job of a) getting the dust from between the wooden floor planks and b) picking up hair, especially the cat's hair. I've heard that one of the Dysons is very good but I'd like a first hand opinion. Thanks.

I have a upright dyson and a cordless one, I also have 2 dogs and 4 cats! I love my dysons and find that they pick up all the hairs even when you don't think you have any!! Expensive but worth it!!
From someone who had two cats and ran a cattery I would buy nothing other than a Miele, Horseshoes.....x
Dysons are very, very good - but you do have to maintain them regularly - if you neglect the routine checks and cleaning of airways/filters they will decline in performance and be useless.

They are also very heavy - a *** to carry upstairs - I tend to think of them as a "practical man's vacuum cleaner".
Sunny dave that's why I also have the cordless
I recently bought a Dirt Devil one in the Sainsbury's sale. It is incredibly light but the suction is so strong that it lifts up the rugs in the hall and the kitchen!
I sold my Dyson because it would not pick up stuff on carpet. Changed to a Miele and would not have anything else. The cat and dog version also has an extra turbo head for persistent hair.
Miele Cat & Dog. It's the best one I've come across and I have the fluffiest beast that you can find. If you haven't got carpet, then I agree with Islay, the Cordless Dyson is excellent.
This was the first question I asked on AB back in Jan 2007 after our Dyson packed in trying to deal with the hair left by Max our long haired GSD and the favourite answer was the Meila Cat & Dog,sadly we lost Max a few years ago but the Meila is still going strong.

Thanks all. You're better than "Which"!
Dish, dyson, dyson, every time.
I have a big one and a cordless one, wouldn't be without either. I only had the big one when we had a golden retriever, it sucked up every bit of hair. The cordless is wonderful, for such a small cordless piece of kit it really is the business. Wouldn't buy any other make.
'Dish'?? Don't know where that came from!
See I had a Dyson upright (the allergy one I think). You could drop 2 inches of cotton onto a carpet and run the Dyson over and over it and it would not pick it up - plus it weighed a ton.
We have two corded Dysons (one for upstairs, one for downstairs) and a cordless Dyson for everywhere else, including car, shed etc. Never had a problem and still work brilliantly.
I had a Vax and found it to be useless, not enough power to turn the brush on carpet use. I then was advised to try a Sebo Pro Eco Upright, German made. Excellent power, very long lead, only thing is that I find it a bit on the heavy side but excellent cleaner. Good on carpet and hard floors. I have 2 cats.
Miele Cat & Dog no contest if you've got a pet. Incidentally, Miele get the One and Two spots in Which Best Buys.
We have three large dogs and we would have nothing other than Dyson, cheap and easy to service and repair, yes they are a little heavy but that is due to being built sturdily!
Gtech Air Ram and Multi. The two ordered together from the company are £300 for the two, delivered next day and worth every penny. Picks up cat's hair, do hair and just about anything else. It's so light I can lift it on my little finger, a full charge lasts about an hour, which is plenty, takes about an hour to charge. I wouldn't be without it.
Any recommendations for the above ( pet hairs) but lightweight and has strong enough suction for deep pile rugs? TIA .
