I recently replastered a wall in my flat, on taking some cupboards down i found that the light swtich electrics were expossed - i know i should have fitted a conduit for them to run through but instead I fixed some plaster board over them and tried to ignore them... anyway i've finished that job the wall looks good BUT the bulbs keep blowing and setting the trip switch off. Any idea what i've done or suggestion how i can sort it out (without ruining my wonderful wall?)

You don't mention which room in the house it is - I hope it's not a kitchen - Part P regulations and all that.

Are you using cheap bulbs perhaps ? Have you disturbed a connection somewhere ? Is the circuit breaker faulty perhaps ? Either way if you are not qualified you really should get a qualified, registered Electrician in to test and locate the problem.

Yes, it will cost but peace of mind with electrics is essential. We wouldn't like to learn of your demise due to an electrical fire for example !

Hi,  I can't think what you can have done which causes the bulbs to blow,  however I can think of many things you can have done which causes the trip.  Do you mean a rccd or elcbo type of trip switch (does it have a TEST button) if yes then some part of the circuit is touching the wall and allowing leakage currents to flow.  When you fixed the plaster board is there any chance that you wacked a nail straight through a cable or even nicked the side of one.  Sounds like it to me.  Exit one new wall.  Maybe you should get assistance from a electrician on this one.

thanks - i know i need an electrician really, just needed someone else to tell me i guess! Billy - i'm ashamed to say it was in the kitchen!!! oooo i'm in so much trouble - but i hoped that as I wasn't fitting anything new - just tidying up an existing problem i could try to ignor building regs - well lesson in this somewhere i guess...
