I need some advice from a builder/joiner if possible (or anyone else that has done this) Just having my kitchen fitted and due to the small size of my new kitchen, I want to have a drop down breakfast bar/work space made up. I have a flat wall with 2 wall units above the breakfast bar space. I want it on hinges that I can drop flat if not in use. Is this possible and which hinges can I buy? thank you.
You could use a piano hinge or just normal door hinges but what would support it in the down position i.e. When it's being used as a worktop? Chains from above or legs from below and how do they look / work when in the upright position?
I think Turbot's Ikea link would be a much cheaper option than having something made up. You can see in the pics that any normal butt hinges would be fine. You wouldn't see them at all when the table is horizontal.
For something heavier, say a conventional worktop, then two fold down legs (one each end at the front) would be needed.
