With the wind picking up around our area there's bound to be damage, on returning home this afternoon I noticed next doors shed door hanging off, there's a young lass there with 3 little kids her BF Is as much use as a chocolate teapot, he's a lazy sod, I was determined not to put this door right & I feel rotten by doing so, what would you have done?

You shouldn't feel rotten for not fixing it for her. I wouldn't get involved. She can always ask you to help, and if you then say no you can feel a teeny bit bad.

Since she and her chocolate teapot are not incapable I'd have left them to it.
I'd like to think I'd be more willing to offer had that not been the case.
No point in feeling rotten. Life's too short to beat yourself up for not being a saint. And they may learn self sufficiency by your not jumping in, which would be a plus for them.
