Got a Miele washing machine 12 years ago. Expensive, but it's worked fine for the duration. We had extended insurance on it, which ran out after 10 years (not a call-out in all that time!)
We asked Miele if they would give us new insurance. No, they wouldn't (not a great advertisement).
We asked Domestic & General if they would insure it. No, they wouldn't.
So we gave up. But I was wondering, are there any insurance firms who specialise is 'old' machines? We don't mind paying the rate, whatever it is, but at present for any minor fault (a slight leak, for example), we have to trawl through the internet looking for a Miele engineer.
Agree wouldn't bother. We've paid out for the cost of 2 new machines by having repair cover and we've had to have an engineer out once in 12 years. (Ariston washer/dryer).
I hear what you're all saying, but this is a Miele, current price about £900. It's a bit like saying a 12-year-old Rolls Royce isn't worth repairing because it's getting on a bit.
The advantage of having paid-up insurance is that the moment anything goes wrong, you can be on the phone to D&G (or whoever) and all the tedious business of finding an appropriate repair company is handled for you. Just laziness, of course...
There is no way any company is going to insure a 12 year old washing machine. So it's just a case of waiting until it goes wrong and calling an engineer. It does not have to be a Miele engineer, all washing machines are so similar a washing machine engineer can fix any make, as long as the parts are available. But as said the price of new washing machines has dropped so much since yours was made that unless it is a very simple fault it's better to buy a new machine.
