Have a small weep from a rad valve in my bathroom. Plumber chum has had a ltrrook and says that the cartridge needs to be replaced therefore needing a draindown. Have seen a product " Fernox leak sealer ". Does anybody know if this would do the trick ?

I have used the material to good effect but much depends on the nature of the leak you are dealing with. You could try the sealer and see what happens, it certainly will not do any harm - it is in effect a material which congeals/sets at the exit location but only if the leak is quite slow but continues otherwise to circulate in solution.
Try turning the valve on and off a few times and leaving in different positions. We've been in our house for over 40 years and had slightly leaky rad valves. Simple solution has always worked!
The sealer is well worth a shot, fg. Otherwise, most likely a drain-down.
One word of caution... I wouldn't be tempted to repeat adding more sealant if it's not successful. There is always the slight possibility of gumming something up within the boiler.
