Is it possible for jeans to be taking in an inch or two around the waist? If so does it alter the look of the jeans or will they still look the same?

Its a real pain to do, you have to remove the waistband, take in the jeans, make the waistband smaller then reconstruct.....no I can't imagine that the jeans will look the same, especially if they were well cut in the first place. If you can't do it yourself, you will need to find someone and if you can, it won't be cheap.

If you try to do it by just cutting through the waistband and taking it in, you will end up with a really lumpy finish.....also you could stitch it back all by hand, tough job, but it takes a tough sewing machine to stitch several layers of denim.

bottom line, possible yes, realistic, no

try shrinking just the waistband in a bowl of boiling water - its how they shrink to fit them.

You may need a few goes

No Item of clothing looks the same when taken in by more than one size.
