Heating Oil Container

I've run out of oil. In 7 to 10 days I can have a delivery. Which is pointless as I am moving out in 14 days. I reckon 50l of oil carefully rationed will do me. I know where I can buy it. Problem is transporting it. I was thinking of 20l or 25l drums (OH says he can manage one of these).

Question is to transport domestic heating oil (kerosene) do I need a particular container for HSE/legal purposes?

Everyone I know transports flammable liquids in their boots, no hse, law worries at all unless you’re a major transporter in bulk flammable liquids.

Well the container will be in the boot Jahulaye. It's just at petrol stations you see signs up about proper containers. I was just wondering if it had to be of a particular material or up to a particular standard.

Go to an army surplus store and buy a Jerry can. They're designed to hold fuel.

Does it really matter barmaid? Even if the police did stop yo, with all their cuts and lack of proper trading I’d doubt even they would know the proper r&r’s over something like this.

Do petrol stations sell them?

On reading jahulayes first response I imagined people carrying fuel in their wellies! I knew that couldn't be right, but couldn't see what the typo must have been. Daft!

We use standard camping containers, the big heavy duty water ones,cost about £7, we've always got 100 litres in stock usually, except now when we needed it :/

As long as it doesn’t leak or combine with the containers chemicals to form an explosive or health hazard.....


Actually disregard my comments as maybe your liquid in a certain plastic/metal container may become explosive so tread carefully as you were doing before I stuck my uneducated snout into your convo.

I can probably get one or two on loan, Melv. I was just checking if anyone knew whether they needed to be a certain standard or material etc. At this rate I'm just going to take me saucepans and a pair of wellies down..........

Sort of, taichiperson. Not like the ones that I remember though where you could buy a army, navy or airforce greatcoat or a proper parka.
