Hi All
I posted a few days ago regarding a garden tap that had stoped working and all indications pointed the the stop/isolation valve being faulty.
After some research I found out that the valve is a check valve with a stop tap on it to turn off during winter.
My question is , are these as simple as a normal isolation valve to replace or can they be fixed.
I'm not even sure if it's a singe or double check valve.
Your help as always is very much appreciated
A check valve is a specific type of valve ...
It has to meet a very strict criteria which ensures fluids are not able to be siphoned back into drinking water systems.
Standard isolation valves are similar in design and appearance to a check valve, but are not able to meet the strict criteria of a check valve which which can prevent backflow from occurring.
Very simple to fit .. just turn the water off at the mains and remove the two nuts on either side of the valve.
Wind a few turns of PTFE tape around each olive before you re-assemble ..
Take the tap off and throw it over into your neighbours garden. Fit a 15mm lever action ball valve in it's place. You will never ever have another problem.
