Best Elctricity & Gas suppliers?

We currently use Southern Electric/Gas - which one would you recommend please?

We use Npower smudge and are very happy with them.We were with Powergen but they messed us about so much with bills we switched.We got a �50 discount for our first year with them.Mind you they all seem to putting the prices up.It's all hit and miss really.All this privatisation means more aggro for the consumer.Years ago you had two suppliers and that was it.Nowadays you seem to have to shop around for everything.
We have just booked flights to Germany for Christmas.What a palaver ! You have to be an accountant to book a train ticket these days!!

Hi smudge, hope you're well. I switched to 'Zest 4' about 6 months ago. I pay half what I paid Manweb (Scottish Power) before and my balance is in credit.

Thank you for that info shaney & dms - You never know whether your being ripped off these days, so best to look into these things thoroughly. Things certainly ain't what they used to be either!

we changed to Powergen a while ago for both electricity and gas and are paying a set amount each month, however thay have just written to us saying that the sum we were paying is now not enough and we owe them �121 - I need to have another look at the figures and see if we are still getting the best deal.

I have found that every supplier will try and beat the price you are paying and will cut your monthly payment. What then can happen is a bill comes through the door saying that your payments are increasing due to ther being an oustanding balance on your account. By doing this they have got you twice, once by getting you to sign with them for a certain period and then again by keeping you with them untill your gas electricity account is settled by the increased payments which can take another year to do.

The best advise I can give is to get details from each supplier on how much a KW/H there gas or electricity is how much there standing charge is (if none the price is normally in two stages so you pay it anyway) any deals they have for 'duel fuel' and discount for direct debit.

Remember to shop around regularly. The energy suppliers are counting on that we will just stay with them and stand any increases they make.
