Feathers Gone Into Clumps In Coat

I read that tennis balls in the tumble drier will unclump feathers in my Gilet. Do I wash the gilet again first or just put it in the tumble drier already dry, with the tennis balls?

Dry, every time you wash it the more they clog. You will get to a point where tennis balls won't work. Knobbly dryer balls work better.
