Apple Trees.

Is there a way to find out what ‘breed’ of apples my trees in the orchard are?
They are very old and a friend mentioned that they might be rare!

Personally I wouldn't get to worried about what 'breed' they are. If the apples taste good I would worry more about how I prune the tree and care for it.
Many fruit trees are grafted .. whereby one breed of tree is grafted onto another when they are saplings. This may produce a mixture of fruit on the same tree, making it difficult to identify the breed.
Only a few months ago I dug out my own grafted tree. It was getting a bit big for the area it had to grow in. It produced large red coxs type apple on the top stems and a smaller yellow golden delicious type from the lower branches.
