Robot Lawnmower

Any of you own(ed) or use(d) a robotic lawnmower, and if so how complicated are they to set up and operate, and how good are they at cutting the grass?

I was looking into one of these so Googled how to set them up, looked a bit complicated, when i got to the bit where you have to run a low wire around the perimeter i gave up!

But thats just me, some may find it easy.

they are really, really easy to set up.

Usually, you simply have to put a wire around your perimeter. Some are smart enough not to need the wire.

Robomow are good ones.

If you’re needing to get the lawn cut on a fairly frequent basis at least half the year, am I right in assuming you need to keep the perimeter wire up permanently? Is it a noticeable wire, does it spoil the look of your garden? Is the mower cordless? What happens to the cut grass? Are there some robot mowers that are not good to buy?

I think the idea with these things is that they don't take any of your time so you can just leave them running loose around the lawn. Clippings are so short they just act as compost for the lawn. (As did the clippings from my Flymo in the days when I had a lawn - vut it frequently and there's no clippings to dispose of).

I don't know about Robomow, I find "Spouse" a good one.

I have a Husqvarna 105 robot lawnmower. I have used it since 2018. I did not set it up, the installation of the perimeter wire and the programming of the mower were done by the supplier. The whole package cost me £1,100. I am well pleased with the robot, and it does a good job of cutting the grass. It will not cut right to the lawn edges, because of the perimeter wire, so I sometimes go round with an edge trimmer. The robot does not remove any grass clippings; they lay on the lawn and are absorbed into the ground. You can, of course, set it up yourself, but it takes some time and effort. The installer installed the perimeter wire with a machine. The robot has to be put indoors (garage, shed) in winter, to avoid frost damage to the battery, and the cutters should be changed at the start of every mowing season. The mower saves me a lot of time (I used to spend about 1.5 hours with a push mower), and a lot of effort.
