Japanese Knot Weed

Have noticed this growing a few hundred yards away on waste land bordering a public footpath and green area. A few hundred yards from my house. But there are houses nearer. Is it the councils responsibility to treat it before it encroaches nearer property.

Are you sure it's Japanese Knot Weed? Most people think they know how to identify it but don't. Apologies Bob if you know, but if you're not sure there's lots of clips on You Tube of how to be sure.

It's not difficult to identify this time of year with its white flowers.

I reported knot weed to our council, and within a day or so, they had come and sprayed the whole area.

There was an item on Rip Off Britain t'other week that said some mortgage lenders are now ignoring Japanese Knot Weed because it's not a destructive as first thought. The odd thing was there was no follow-up report on that statement. They just said it. I was hoping they would show the reasons for reaching that conclusion, but nope!

Clarion, from my personal experience I would get rid of the plant ASAP. Apart from being very invasive it can crack concrete.

I know Tony. A friend of mine used tob be a site mangager for an electric company. One time they were constructing a new sub-station, but because there was some Knot Weed near the site, they had to re-locate it. I just wonder what was the reason for mortgage lenders ignoring JKW.

Clarion I cannot understand why any would lend money, unless it's at a high interest rate and hoping building insurance will cover any structural damage...b

P P. Reported it. Described the area it was at . Chap I spoke to said he was aware of it. But it is not council property land?? It belongs to the NCB or coal board. Bit of an anomaly as it’s the wrong side of old coal board land retaining wall.
