Sky TV Dish

I am moving house in a couple of weeks. I am having a new SKY TV installed in my new house.

The lady moving into my current house does not want SKY TV. Therefore, does anyone know if it is mine or SKY's responsibilty to remove the satellite dish? I have emailed SKY, but they take forever to come back to you.

I don't want to break my neck doing it.....

I don't have Sky but I've just been looking through the Sky TV website and I can't see anything like "The satellite dish remains the property of BSkyB plc . . ." in their terms and conditions. As far as I can see, the dish is yours and, therefore, expecting Sky to remove it is a bit like expecting the BBC to come and remove an unwanted aerial for terrestrial TV.

I don't think that anyone needs to remove the dish. It can just stay there, unused. The only exceptions are as follows:

A. If your old house was rented and your landlord only permitted you to install the dish on the understanding that you'd remove it when you left, then it's up to you to remove it (either yourself or by employing someone to do it for you).

B. If you've sold your house to the new occupier, and the sale agreement which you signed stated that the dish would be removed, then, once again, it's up to you to find a way to get it taken down.

If you haven't entered into any agreement, either with a former landlord or with the new occupier, then the dish can stay where it is. If either the landlord or the occupier, as appropriate, doesn't like it being there, it will be up to them to remove it.

PS: Even if the dish is actually the property of SKy, there's unlikely to be any responsibility upon them to remove it. They mave have provided a free, or discounted service, to put it up but this doesn't oblige them to take it down.

Further to the answer by Chris, BSkyB supply the equipment to receive their Digital Service "free" so long as you adhere to the T&Cs for the minimum term, which is 12 months.

Basically this means that the Minidish and Digibox are your property from the time of installation, however if you default within the first year you will receive a charge of �80 for the supply of the equipment (and �120 for the installation if this was also part of the free offer).

I bought a sky dish and satellite receiver years back. After a few years of paying out a lot of money every month I decided I wasn't watching sky to get my money's worth so we stopped the contract. I still have my sky dish and receiver. I paid for my receiver and sky dish at the time so it belongs to me. I am moving house soon and I cannot remember if there was something in the fixtures and fittings regarding that. I don't recall it. I would just say take your dish.

Unless it's in the way or unsightly I'd just leave it where it is, unless removal is part of the terms of sale it will become her responsibility once she moves in.

Leave the dish and box in place and show this to the new buyer. Analogue is being switched off in a f ew years Tell her she can have free digital tv now.

Ring Sky and they will install a new dish at your new address. Last time I checked this service was free, it may not be right now though. Sky would prefer it if customers did not attempt to remove/install the dishes for safety reasons.
